Most students lose marks on answers they
already know.
"Teaching you what you didn't know you didn't know."
Not because they lack knowledge - they lack strategy and confidence.
"Hands down, no glaze - he is the best private tutor I have ever had."
Kirby Ng
Full-Time Economics Tutor | NUS Economics GraduateI got into tutoring Economics because I remembered how scared and hopeless I felt as a student. I know how students can recite theory perfectly and still lose marks - not knowing where or how it went wrong. Because nobody showed them how to structure their thinking, deploy evaluation, and write answers the way examiners reward.
That's what I spend every lesson addressing and reminding. My lessons are designed around one outcome: a student who understands the subject well enough to perform under pressure.
Outside of tutoring, you'll usually find me coaching Slowpitch softball at NUS on a pro-bono basis, or being baited by any marketing gimmick involving Pokemon.
While KiNG Economics is a nod to my initials, it stands for my teaching philosophy: I train students to stop being subjects to the syllabus and start mastering it with sovereign confidence. I want every student to walk into the exam hall feeling like they can navigate the exams with absolute authority.
How We Teach Differently
A complete personalised learning system engineered around the habits, tools, and strategies that produce real grades.
You'll always know what to write
You walk into every exam with a one-page framework per topic - covering arguments, diagrams, and evaluation angles - so even unseen questions feel familiar.
You'll never waste words again
The moment you read a question, you'll know the exact structure, depth, and type of argument it demands. No more writing three paragraphs when one focused one scores more.
You'll finally understand your score
Every essay comes back with specific comments - the exact lines that earned marks, the exact lines that didn't, and why. No more guessing what went wrong.
Your questions get answered, not saved
Ask on WhatsApp between lessons. Send a draft on Google Docs. Book a Zoom for something tricky. You're supported every day of the week - not just during class hours.
Theory finally makes sense
Abstract concepts stop feeling abstract when they're anchored to real events. The Singapore Budget, Fed rate decisions, trade wars - every lesson connects the syllabus to the world.
Exam pressure stops affecting you
We practise under time limits until timed writing becomes your default - so on exam day, the conditions don't change how you perform.
Why Smart Students Still Underperform
The difficulty, for Economics, isn't knowing - it's showing that you know.
-
The Application Gap
You can define every concept - but freeze when a case study asks you to apply textbook knowledge to an unfamiliar context.
-
The Essay Structure Gap
Your points are valid. But without the right architecture - structure, keywords, explanation, diagram, evaluation - marks slip away.
-
The Content Gap
Each word in Economics is meant to trigger another word, forming a cohesive analytical train of thought. Omitting key terminology quietly costs marks.
-
The Evaluation Gap
You can describe a policy, and use a "textbook evaluation". But will that be the best, sharpest, contextual judgement you need? That's what separates a B student from an A.
The Jump from Pass to Distinction
Content gets you the pass. Evaluation gets you the Distinction. I teach the structured approach to evaluation that most students never learned to learn, never knew they needed to know.

Testimonials - What Students Say
"Mr Ng was nice enough to take me as a student Pro Bono. I was struggling in school due to family problems and had to take my A Levels as a private candidate. Being without a school, I wasn't doing well in Econs. We couldn't really meet regularly so most of our lessons were online but to my surprise they were really helpful because of his lesson notes and lesson structure. Eventually, I made it into university through his help and I am very thankful. I don't think it would be possible without him."

"Hands down, no glaze - he is the best private tutor I have ever had. He has printed collated notes and practice papers that summarise the chapters so efficiently."
"Pretty well explanations. He asked a lot of questions which was good because it helped me come up with answers on the spot. Very engaging lessons."
"Lessons were structured and easy to understand. There is plenty of time for application and 'trying answers' - exactly what I needed to build confidence before the exam."
"I found your review videos very helpful and the way you teach me to structure notes as well. It made complex topics feel manageable for the first time."
"I like the content mindmaps - Mr Kirby is very open to questions and attentive. Going through question types was especially helpful. I finally understood what each Market Failure essay actually requires."
"He's very patient. I like how he marks our work and keeps checking in on people. I joined mainly to understand answering techniques and was able to take away key ideas and an overall recap of important concepts."

Questions About Economics Tuition
Common questions from students and parents - answered honestly.
Economics tuition in Singapore typically ranges from $40โ$120/hr depending on format and tutor experience. At KiNG Economics, group classes are $55/hr ($440/month for 4 sessions) and 1-to-1 is $130/hr ($1040/month). Both include notes, WhatsApp support, and essay feedback. New students receive 25% off their first month of group tuition.
H2 Economics has one of the higher failure rates among A-Level subjects. Tuition tends to be most valuable when students understand the content but can't convert it into marks, or when they need structured essay feedback. A trial lesson makes it easy to assess fit before committing - no obligation needed.
H2 Economics is the full A-Level course - two papers covering Micro, Macro, and trade, examined via Case Study Questions and essays. H1 Economics covers a slimmer syllabus with one paper. Both require strong essay evaluation skills, but H2 demands greater depth and breadth.
The biggest lever is evaluation - forming sharper, context-specific judgements. Most students underperform here because they were never shown it as a structured skill. A strong Economics essay identifies the key issue, uses precise language, supports claims with theory and real examples, argues both sides, and reaches a supported conclusion.
Ideally by early J1, for A Levels, or the start of Grade 9 for IGCSE - building the right habits early makes later content much more manageable. That said, students who join in J2 or the year of their exam can and do make significant improvements with focused preparation.
They're different in structure rather than simply harder or easier. IB Economics has multiple papers and an Internal Assessment, rewarding real-world application. A-Level H2 is more essay-heavy with a demanding evaluation standard. IB HL is broadly comparable in rigour to H2; SL is generally more accessible.
Yes - online lessons are available for all programmes, using proper teaching tools and resources. Online lessons follow the same structure as in-person classes and include the same materials, WhatsApp support, and essay feedback. Popular for students outside the Bishan, Bukit Timah, and Orchard areas.
The trial is a full 2-hour group or 1-to-1 lesson. You'll cover real syllabus content, receive materials, and experience the teaching approach firsthand. After the lesson you decide whether to continue - no commitment, no pressure. WhatsApp to arrange a trial at your preferred time and level.
I specialise exclusively in Economics: GCE A-Level H1 and H2, IB Economics SL and HL, and Cambridge IGCSE Economics (0455). Because I focus on one subject, every resource and technique is tailored specifically to Economics.
Lesson materials and notes are provided so you can catch up. Make-up arrangements to join another session may also be possible - we also have the option of providing lesson recordings. For 1-to-1 students, sessions can be rescheduled with reasonable notice.
If This Is You, Let's Change That.
